Join the Huntsville Inner City Learning Center for the Give it Back Track 5K and Fun Run

The Huntsville Inner City Learning Center (HICLC) is holding a 5K and Fun Run on May 12 at 8 a.m. Proceeds for the race and walk support the charity Every Child Has a Story a public speaking club for children in Huntsville, Alabama. The race starts behind Campus 805 at 8 a.m. and finishes at the HICLC on Brahan Avenue.

Carol May and Beth Moshier started the Give it Back Track 5K in 2012. They wanted to pass along their love for being active and running to students at HCICL and give them a purpose behind their activities. Exercise is an important part of the program at HICLC. Give It Back Track 5K was established to give the kids the goal of completing a 5K, but also to teach the joy of giving back to their community and cement the lessons taught in spiritual study at HICLC about being thankful and sharing blessings with others. All proceeds from the race are given to another organization chosen by the children. In past years, students have supported to Vapor Sports, Madison County Special Olympics, Deep Roots, Well House, Kids to Love. This year they have chosen Every Child Has a Story, an organization that empowers children and teens to build communication skills and self-confidence through speechwriting and public speaking.

Race organizers have created two levels for race support and sponsorship: Strength Level ($250 – $500), and Determination Level ($50 – $249). Donations are not limited by any category, and all donations are appreciated.  Runners can volunteer to run with a child and also to sponsor a child.

More information on the race can be found at HICLC.org.

The HICLC is located at 2450 Brahan Avenue. It is an after-school program building a spiritual, educational, and moral foundation for students in Huntsville’s inner city. HICLC serves approximately 70 children, from K – 8th grades. Four days each week, the children are offered a highly structured, disciplined program aimed at helping them succeed in school and in their personal lives. The program features a rigorous exercise program, in-depth Bible study with healthy snacks, nutritious dinner, and tutoring and mentoring.
